Hailing from the desertscape of the Inland Empire, Southern California, Big Crown-signed trio Brainstory's sunshine-drenched sound is blended with label head Michel's New York production. The band released the dreamy single 'River' last year, and now follow up with a fresh track, 'Bye Bye'. The defining Big Crown drum sound is ever-present on the new track, as well as electric guitar soul hits, that mingle with strutting bass. The standout moment has to be the chorus, where everything comes together so seamlessly, and vocals sob, 'you pass me by', with harmonised backing vocals that echo, 'bye bye'. Taken from their forthcoming EP, Ripe, Brainstory's 'Bye Bye' uses elements of psych, hip hop and jazz, taking sonic elements of the past, and tuning them to the present. -Ellie Rose-Davies
